Born: October 7, 1900 in Munich.
Died: May 23, 1945. Suicide – swallowed a cyanide pill when captured by British Forces.
Himmler was head of the SS (Schutzstaffel), controlling almost all German police and security forces (including the Gestapo).
As Reichsfuhrer-SS, Himmler was also directly responsible for the Nazi concentration & death camps, as well as the Einsatzgruppen (mobile death squads).
Near the end of the war, Himmler offered to surrender all of Germany to the Allies in an effort to avoid prosecution as a war criminal. Clearly, Himmler did not believe in the righteousness of his actions either.
Following the example of his cowardly Fuhrer, Himmler killed himself in a desperate ditch attempt to avoid responsibility. Brave.

I dont think you should use the word cowardly, they suicide not to avoid responsability they suicide because of honor, of not being prisioners of war (sorry about spelling and grammar but is not my first language) with out considering the holocaust both Hitler and Himmler had great things to learn about, do not make the same mistake you can learn a lot from them even more if you just make critics read about it (mein kampf, Hitlers war both great books)

r u mad??
November 8, 2009 at 7:45 pm |
i dont know whats honorable about what they did they were cowards they couldnt stand the thought of having what they did to millions of people be done to them so they took the easy way out.
December 8, 2009 at 2:02 am
You misunderstand the above points mde by Carlos. Anything other than suicide would have been dishonourable (excuse spellings, I’m English), hence the cyanide pill.
You must also remember that The Nazi power almost succeeded so there is indeed much to learn from their incredible stories. Read the books to understand the person without the propaganda and to get a finer definition and essence of the person.
Keep your friends close… keep your enemies closer…

PS. In order to truly understand history you need to know all accounts in order to come to an unbias and balanced grasp of what actually occurred.
August 25, 2009 at 1:54 am |
I must agree with Carlos. I too have read Mein Kampf and it is an excellent book.
Was Hitler, Himmler, etc. cowards? Maybe to a degree. However, the basis of their suicides were more from their pride. The German people were very proud. As individuals and as a group/country. Hitler and Himmler would have rather been dead than to see their country anything but Nationalist Socialists.
When you’re on top it’s very hard to imagine ever being on bottom. They would just have been dead than to be on bottom.
December 11, 2009 at 12:20 pm |
No, they were not brave people as individuals, I cannot accept this statement. It is exactly the opposite. All of the Nazi and Fascist life was organised in groups. The group was above all the other things, that’s why they were likely to be cowards as individuals, maybe even for a question of not being accostumed.

Being a ww2 fan I remember reading a statement of a captured german officer near the end of the war he said the japanese would die wholesale for next to nothing for honor’s sake and the american’s would die so others might be free, the german’s on the other hand were somewhere in the middle. Yes, there may have been a slice of cowardice but I also think it was more the way the european’s delt with their idea of what honor was
August 27, 2009 at 7:24 pm |
Himmler , like other herioes, was victim of the true criminals: Stalin, Roosvelt, Churchill, remember Hiroshima, Dresde, Nagasaki, 6 millons of german civilians killed for the uncle Sam.
October 11, 2009 at 7:01 pm |
What freakin planet do you come from. Himmler is probably the biggest mass murderer of all time and you think the guy was a hero? What an a** clown.
December 4, 2009 at 6:48 pm |
What? You are a neo-nazi? Himmler was a big basterd, Maybe Roosvelt murdered nazi’s, but almost every of them had killed other people, or were ready to do it. I think you are very dis-respectfull to people who died in this war. Don’t act to be cool, if you are neo-nazi, or denie the Holocasut you go to jail
December 8, 2009 at 2:11 am |
Bear in mind guys… Germany, like most other countries, had and continues to have it’s own propaganda machine. We have one here in the UK which never mentions the genocide commited by my ancestors during the reign of Queen Victoria, or the more recent ‘war with terrorism’ which is causing the deaths of thousands of innocents overseas.
Try to keep an open mind and remember that old democratic necessity… Freedom of Speech.

sorry. Have i stumbled upon a nazi loving site by accident? Mein Kampf? A brilliant book? Its the parnoid ravings of a psychotic. If Hitler had qualities they were speech making/rabble rousing and knowing when to take advantage of his opponents weaknesses. Thats it. As for calling any of them heroes, I won’t even justify your stupidity and ignorance with a comment.

Was sind denn das hier für Nazi-Sprüche? So was muss verboten werden! Please: Remember what the nazis did to the jews, the german people and country (I love dearly) If you all like it or not: It was Hitler who brought endless devestation and pain over Europe!!!! And: The german nation has to bear this blame – and will, maybe for a thousand years to come! I hate the Nazis for that.

September 18, 2009 at 7:16 am |
The men we ought to remember are the nameless ones, those who served the “Empire” because it was their home country. Those men where victims too!
September 22, 2009 at 4:11 am |
I consider myself a smart person that has yet alot to learn. Has anyone thought the reasons or motives of why the nazis had so much hate and repulsion toward jews. So jews are little angels that never did anything to desserve what they got. Why dont you knot-jobs focus on what really happened before making a snap opininon, just because your teacher told you to words: “Hitler, jew murderer”
September 22, 2009 at 6:21 pm |
no hitler was a sick man non of those 60 million jews should have died, there are men and women who no one will ever know kids who did nothing wrong apart from be jewish. there are brithish and amirican men and women who died to save there countery they will never get there name said but hittler gets called a god i dont think so here is a poam They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them
these are the men we should talk about not hitler or himmler relife men and women and yes u can says they deserved it and mybe some did but not all of them not 60 million deserved to die
September 22, 2009 at 6:27 pm |
evan some of his own officers thort so just look at oporation valkyrie
September 22, 2009 at 8:57 pm |
yes, hitler had some qualitys of a leader… but also some qualitys of a voodooist…you see hitlers plans were doomed from the begining, they were simply outlandish and irrational.
as a military stratigist he did things commanders had never done like blitzkeig, and pinser meneuvers.he also served to bring together nazi germany. but non the less ideology was outlandish and irrational.
BLAME………….you are a fool to belive hitler is soley at fault. if you ARE to blame him, blame him for his ridiculous philosophies…..dig deep enough. and you will find there are powers that want these thing events to occure.
as an american i do not hate any one type of person,i seek to understand not judge…anytype of government at its extreme can leave it people vulnerable…including my own………………………………………………..remember…the truth shall set you free!!

Its spelt Blitzkrieg. I totally and utterly agree with you, I pretty much said the same thing below so I shan’t elaborate.

I know there are many neo-Nazi sentiments out there, but everybody, bar none, NEEDS to be reading more, and more than ‘Mein Kampf’. Read, for instance, ‘The 12-Year Reich’ or biographies of Hitler by people who studied him for years… from ‘Hitler-A Study in Tyranny’ by Alan Bullock, quoting Hitler on reading: ‘Reading had probably a different significance for me from that which it has for the average run of our so-called ‘intellectuals’. I know people who read interminably, book after book, from page to page… Of course they ‘know’ an immense amount, but they have not the faculty of distinguishing between what is useful and useless in a book; so that they may retain the former in their minds and, if possible, skip over the latter…. Reading is not an end in itself, [as in for learning], but a means to an end…. One who has cultivated the art of reading will INSTANTLY discern, in a book or journal or pamphlet, what ought to be remembered because it meets one’s personal needs or is of value as general knowledge.” quote-unquote- [from Hitler's writings]
‘This is a picture of a man with a closed mind, reading only to confirm what he already believes, ignoring what does not fit in with his preconceived scheme.’ [Alan Bullock] “Otherwise,” Hitler says, “only a confused jumble of chaotic notions will result from all this reading. Such a person never succeeds in turning his knowledge to practical account when the opportune moment arrives; for his mental equipment is not ordered with a view to meeting the demandsw of everyday life.” Hitler was speaking the truth when he said: “Since then[i.e., since his days in Vienna] I have extended that foundation very little, and I have changed nothing in it.” quote-unquote
The man did not want to go any further in his learning than what he already believed. He also was half Jewish himself, so why the tyranny against part of himself? He is described by other sources as being a person with whom no one could hold a conversation because he would soon be hogging the dialog to himself then start ranting and raving, screaming at the person w/ whom he was in ‘conversation’. Does this sound like a rational person?
Do not hold him dear or as a hero in your minds. He committed horrible atrocities against many more peoples than just the Jews, although the Jews got more press than did the Gypsies, the mentally retarded, the deformed and disabled, the Christian ministers and their congregations, whom he eliminated w/o any compunction, w/o regard for their humanity and need for respect. Hitler tore apart Europe in his driving quest for supremacy, for his chance to be ‘GOD’ over all the peoples of Aryan descent. Read and learn that we must NEVER let this kind of madman run loose on the face of this earth ever again. Read more than just biased ramblings of a crazed, demonic person. Learn or we are bound to repeat all of what he perpetrated or worse.

October 21, 2009 at 3:31 am |
Just to start off, I in no way support neo-nazism. And frankly it can be repulsive but I tolerate the people who choose to feel that way as long as they keep it to themselves. But to be honest here, put aside the atrocities caused Hitler and Himmler were both extremely smart men and Hitler was a very good leader. He bought Germany out of the depression and united the country, and to get so close to conquering Europe. Well frankly, he was pretty genuis. But yeah he pretty much lost his bloody mind by the end of the war. The blame for world war two cannot be put completely on Hitler and his subjects. Do you think Hitler would have been the fashist he was if not for the Treaty of Versaille and the grudge Europe held on Germany? And if the League of Nations, France and Britain had not appeased all his demands up until Poland the war would have been completely preventable. Yes, Hitler bought war on the world. But the world let it happen.

at first of all hitler and and the others like churchill, roosvelt, mussolini, stalin, lenin, mao, and many of them are guilty and murderer of humanity that humanbeing ever seen in all of past. hitler killed thousands of jew.and today many jews and their sons of the survivors from the death camp of nazi germany killing innocent muslim palestinians in their own country. is there anyone here to stop babies blood in this site or are you all jewish to blame only to nazis? sorry for my broken English.
October 29, 2009 at 6:21 am |
Does any one man no matter what race, religion, nationality, or social status, hold the right to decide who lives or dies? Could there have been people who were murderers and liars on both sides? Are we still being lied to today? People will do anything for power or fame, including murder and lie that’s fact. I wonder if there will ever be a world without war or people who are willing to wage war. Judging by the posts on this website it’s not likely.
November 2, 2009 at 10:17 pm |
the s.s,gestapo the whole thrid reich wer evil people who deserved DEATH fact!! they killed innocent people millions and millions and also killed prisoners of war even under the geneva convention! all those people in the nazi party are complete bastards
December 2, 2009 at 3:27 am |
So has every other dominant empire in pretty much the history of the world. Killing innocent people, genocide, killing POW’s is nothing new to the world. Hell in the 14-19 century pretty much wherever European colonists and explorers went they massacred native people they deemed ‘barbarians’, ’savages’ and likewise solely because they did not understand the native culture. Every year hundreds of thousands, millions of innocent people are killed in acts of genocide and senseless conflicts in Africa. The only reason the world remembers and constantly concentrates attention on Hitler’s crimes and not those in occuring everyday in Africa (for example) is because it happened in a wealthier area of the world. Because Hitler wasn’t killing poorer people with dark skintones, because he was killing wealthy, white people the world remembers his crimes. People wouldn’t have been so horrified, many probably wouldn’t have even cared if Hitler had gassed millions of black Africans. Because it was nothing new to the world. The Holocaust shocked people, because no one had killed millions of innocent white people before. Frankly, publicising Hitlers crimes, the Holocaust is probably just what Hitler wanted. Maybe he choose to kill millions of white Jews, gypsies etc. because he knew when he was dead people would see what happened and be installed by such shock that they would remember him as they do. The best thing we can do, is remember those who died and forget those who committed the crimes, don’t spare them the satisfaction of lasting in history.

ALL MUSLIMS AND GERMANS SHOULD DIE. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM.
November 13, 2009 at 6:54 pm |
Wow, people really get worked up 64 years later. That is refreshing to see. Hitler, Himmler not so different from our home grown boys if they just had their chance. If you don’t belive me then you have your head in the sand.
Jews will have problems forever. Well that is more problems then the larger religons who have vast territories and resources.
Remember all of those Nazis, Cambodians, and “Modern Day Serbs” are all Gods children no matter what they do…
November 14, 2009 at 3:59 am |
I believe Hitler was one of the most important and loved leaders in World War 2. Just take a look at the thousands of Germans (many photos) reaching out and straining to see and hear him. This affection for their leader can’t be denied.
November 27, 2009 at 7:20 pm |
ya its true I think if was one of the best leader, he lost the war and become a villain, if he might have won, maybe we might have a different view
December 7, 2009 at 2:28 am |
I’m reading “Milkweed” and I think what happened to the Jews should never happen again to anyone, never, ever.
December 10, 2009 at 12:09 pm |
Heinrich Himmler was one of the greatest man of the century.
Pure Aryan & Patriotic
Heil Hitler….
December 11, 2009 at 9:05 am |
The only reason Israel is even a country is thanks to Hitler. Anyone who thinks he was a great man should realize that he was a failure in life and is a failure in death. And, above all, a huge embarrassment to the great country of Germany. The costs incurred becuse of that little idiot were and continue to be enormous. Heil nothing. If that pipsqueak would have sold some of his crappy paintings no one would even know his name.
December 12, 2009 at 3:55 pm |
I just watched “Hitler’s Bodyguard” and the account from his secretary states that he did not want to end up like Musolini (sp?), hung by his ankles in the middle of a busy thoroughfare, so he chose suicide. Harldy honorable, totally cowardice.

Kraut, my sentiments exactly…
