Asner was Police Chief of Slavonska Ponega, Croatia. He enforced racist laws under the Nazi-Croatian allied regime and had an active role in the persecution & deportation of hundreds of Serbs, Jews & Gypsies.
He was discovered in 2004 in Operation: Last Chance (Weisenthal Center) and has been indicted by Croatia.
Here’s the kicker. Asner is alive and well, living in Austria. The Austrian government refuses to extradite him. What?! The Austrian government is sheltering a man who (allegedly) committed crimes against humanity.
This man lives, while hundreds of those condemned by him have been in graves since the early 40s.

yes…this is a very odd one. I was folowing the case from time to time being heavily involved in Balkan society ( I married a YUGOSLAVIAN girl…and I have acquired family/friends all ove the FYR)
It is bad that AUSTRIA was DE-NAZIFIED at the level of Germany being….I have this strange feeling that Austria was in the end MORe NAZI than Germany itself! The Corporal was indeed from LINZ and many other promiment Nazis were of Austrian origin…many nowdays I reckon do forget this (and maybe simply DO NOT KNOW)
